Me as an Olympian

In room 4 today for Writing we had to write a story of us as olympians winning a gold medal for a sport of your choice, here is mine:

Tuesday 10th September 2020.  I'm in my 5 star hotel room waiting for my dinner to arrive.  I pull back the soft, modern, lush curtains to see the popular Hollywood sign has been made into the olympic logo.  There is a loud bang on the front door.  I open it in silence.  The waitress greets me and hands me my chicken caesar burger with some salad and water.  Thank you, I say.

I finish my delicious burger, set my alarm for 8:00 and get some rest.  My nerves are so strong they could literally push me out of the bed right now, but I am stronger than that.  I have a big day tomorrow and I am shattered.

7:59 Wednesday 11th September... Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep.  I smack my phone a couple of times to turn it off, but then I realise that I need to get up.  I get out of bed and reach to the breakfast bell.  Once again the waitress walks in with a power shake and a chocolate chip pancake.  Delicious!

Now I am dressed in my red and white leo and I'm ready to go.  My personal limo arrives a couple of floors below me.  I get in and the driver heads towards the olympic gymnasium.

We have arrived and I hop out of the limo and all my team mates great me.  Out of nowhere there is an announcement telling us that we are on vault first.  Uh Oh, I whispered.  You'll be fine says Alara.  I hope so, I replied.  Vault isn't my strongest I told her.  The next minute there is a voice inside my head saying that I will never win or even get a medal.  Be Quiet, I told that voice.  I can do this, I shouted!

Up first is Ellie Louise representing Great Britain.  Great Britain cheer for Ellie as she solutes.  Her long legs help her sprint fast towards the beat board, but her timing isn't what it should be.  She stops suddenly.  Thats a refusal.  She could lose at least a .5 for that.  She tries again and does her roundoff back handspring onto the vault and a back tuck off and sticks it!  WOW!  I said speechless. That's going to be hard to beat. Every gymnast has competed except for me and their routines have been extraordinary. Last but definitely not least the judges say over the speaker is, Brooke Curran, Canada cheers and so do my team mates.  The crowd goes silent.  I am so nervous because I have never stuck it before. I solute and start my routine.  I sprint towards the beat board like an angry Lion.  I did my hurdle at the correct time and carried it into a round off and did a back handspring and a back layout with a 2 1/2 twist and I stuck it!  The crowd goes wild!

Over the speaker there is a terribly loud announcement.  The judges have made their final decision.  In 3rd place is Ellie Louise! Great Britain cheers. In 2nd place is Jazzy! New Zealand applauses her.  And now what we've all been waiting for, in 1st place is... Brooke Curran!  Canada screams with excitement  and I walk up in shock.  I can't believe it!  I actually won!

I arrive back at the hotel.  Another good day in the life of an olympic gymnast!

On Thursday of Week 3, I went to the Intermediate Gymnastics Festival. We were competing against lots of other Intermediates. It was a great day!

Olympic Gymnastics

It’s a dream come true becoming an olympian gymnast. I am competing against Liv and Anna. On Bars I am as strong as a lion. I am energetic like a zebra. I went to London Olympics in 2012 and won gold on bars, silver on floor, silver on vault and bronze on beam. I am level like 20 that's how good I am. I am ranked number 2 in the world for all round. I am doing my floor routine as I finish my cartwheel, backhandspring step-out, back handspring I go to finish the pass with my back layout with a double twist. I finish my pass, the audience cheers like a bunch of happy monkeys. But I’m not finished yet all I need to do is my back walkover and back handspring twisting and landing in a plank. What if I fail, I mean I only got this skill last week. The crowd goes as quiet as a mouse. I stand there on the corner of the floor ready to turn like a scared little kitten, all of a sudden the music gets loud, it’s time. I turn with my leg in the air as strong as a an alligator. I do my back walker, now my back handspring twist. I land in a plank! I have completed my routine, the music stops and the crowd goes wild like a herd of tigers. Now all I can hope for is that the judges are impressed by my routine. No time to worry about it now. 3rd place goes to Liv Brooney the crowd cheers. 2nd place.. Anna Sandleback the crowd cheers  even louder and last but not least 1st place goes to...

Persuasive Speech Writing


  1. WALT: persuade a reader to agree with the writer’s point of view through the presentation of relevant points and supporting evidence.
  2. Do your parents never pay attention to you because you’re older and they need to, 'keep an eye' on your younger sibling? Are you sick and tired of never getting what you want? Welcome to my world. Even though I only have one younger sibling, it only takes one to be annoying.

  1. Firstly, by being around a younger, or even older sibling when they are annoying  can really get you stressed out. When I want to do things for myself my brother is always being very annoying, so I have to do it while I’m locked up in my room. It’s really annoying being in my room all the time but at least it doesn’t get me stressed out.

  1. Secondly, a thing that happens a lot is you might get to the front of the line before your younger sibling and then your parents might say, “Oh let your sibling have a turn because they haven’t had a turn yet” but you might not have had a turn either, and you can’t really say anything because we all know what happens if you argue with your parents. It’s like since they’re younger your parents want them to experience just as much as you.  I know this for a fact because it happens to me a lot.

  1. Another thing that happens a lot is, your sibling might be in a bad mood and blame it on you for putting them in that mood. Although most parents know that you can never blame someone for putting you in a mood, it is still pretty annoying.

  1. Fighting, it happens a lot in families with children. Usually, one sibling starts a fight and then the other sibling does the right thing by telling an adult the truth but then the sibling that started it tells an adult a completely different story and the adults are left not knowing who started it or who's telling the truth. When adults see it, the sibling that is not telling the truth usually wouldn’t be trusted as much. Unfortunately, dealing with an irritating family member who won’t leave you alone isn’t something you can deal with by running fast or climbing high. Once you understand what’s going on, cooler heads can prevail and you can try to see through your emotional response and reduce the situation.

  1. Enough of the bad stuff, getting special treatment and stressing you out let's get on with the good stuff. Siblings may seem very, very annoying at the time but at the end of the day, they are Family. Also without a sibling you could get very lonely, having nobody to talk to while your parents are watching television, no-one to show anything to and the list goes on.  You and I are brothers and sisters, always remember that if you fall, I will pick you up, as soon as I finish laughing.

My dog Ella

Sadness

Bright yellow flowers surrounded her. It seemed like it was only yesterday that she died. When I got home I couldn’t find Ella anywhere. I looked outside, inside, everywhere. Then I heard a call “BROOKE!” My parents screamed. “Uh Oh…..”

“Ella has been very sick lately, she has been having, what’s called a growth in her stomach, which is cancer. So earlier today we’ve had to take her to the vet and she won’t be around anymore.”

I cried for ages and ages. Now every time I see the lemon tree, I remember that Ella is buried there. I think of everything we have ever done together.

I used to do everything with Ella, she was my best friend. Ella was the most loving, caring, friendly dog you would ever meet. Her fur was as if it had been dipped in chocolate. She was the best thing that had ever happened to me. No matter what happens I will always remember her.

  • Medal- I think that I did really well of telling where it was, who it was and what it was.
  • Medal- I think I used my past tense words in a good way when I needed them.
  • Mission- I need to read my work more and really try to look for any mistakes.

Maths Today

Today in Maths we did Sieve of Eratosthenes which is a website where you highlight the numbers that are not prime numbers and so you are left with the prime numbers. Prime numbers are numbers that can only be divided by 1 and itself.
The prime numbers are: 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29,31,37,41,43,47,53,59,61,67,71,73,79,83,89,97.

Quirky Quick Writes

Hamburger Eulogy
I remember the soft fluffy buns, the hamburger was my very Best Friend. I remember all the great stories she used to tell me when I was little. When she died it was the saddest thing that has ever happened to me. After 10 great years together it was time, time for me to eat her, I took a great big bite, the greatest bite of my life the stale bun, the rotten lettuce, the mouldy tomato and the fluffy meat patty, it was delicious. When I had nearly finished eating her I tore off a piece of the burger and buried it, and until this very day she is still buried under the trampoline.

Lettuce take a moment to remember her.

Dragon's cave
There I was, standing inside a cave. “ROA” “What was that” I said nervously “I wa I” Yelled the dragon “What is your name?” I questioned “Mi nam iss Bobb” Said Bob ”Wat iss yor nam?” “My name?” I gulped “Yas yor nam” “Um, my name is Billie” “Do you know how to spell?” “Umm”

Octopodo
The two octopus are living happily on a washing line. When all of a sudden… “SWAAK, SWAAK” Yelled the anonymous seagull! It’s like he was trying to say “Watch out below”. Oh No! he is heading for my beloved prince William! I know what I will do!? I will use all of my eight tentacles to fly behind the seagull but grab some of William’s tentacles and then with my head I will head but the seagull and then William will come flying with me back to the ocean! Myself Well give it a shot. 1,2,3 GO I flew behind the seagull grabbed William’s tentacles head butted the seagull and… Oops SORRY William. Oh well you’ll still live with five tentacles. (RIGHT???)

We wanted to find out how a battery works so we did the famous lemon battery experiment we found:
1 lemon = 0.9 volts
2 lemons = 1.8 volts
lemon + lemon + pear + cucumber = 3.5 volts and LED lights up

W.A.L.T Add detail to our writing to describe a setting
Apocalypse 
School

It is hard to imagine an apocalypse as big as this one, but it is true. The old school has lost everything, the students, the teachers, the colour, the memories and most of all it has lost it’s life. With no air to surround it the school isn’t a school any more. All that is left is a shaggy, old, rusty building with a clock tower. All you can hear is the wind blowing the desert dust everywhere. You can feel the dust blowing all over your mask making it hard to see.

Electronics

Today was my first day at Technology @ HNI.
Because of the earthquake this week we looked at the GET READY website and I learned that we should...

1. Create a Household plan ready for a disaster
2. Have an emergency kit
3. Have a getaway kit
In our emergency kit we should have a torch with spare batteries
